Abortion is an extremely safe and common medical procedure that, until June 2022, was legal throughout the United States. On June 24, 2022 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, granting states the legal authority to ban abortion. This verdict overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating the federal constitutional right to an abortion that had been law for nearly half a century.
Since that time nearly half of the states have banned or restricted abortion access, forcing people to travel hundreds of miles to access comprehensive reproductive health care. These attacks are blatant attempts to control people’s bodily autonomy and impact every other area of their lives. Keystone Progress is on the front-lines, bringing together stakeholders from throughout the region, supporting pro-choice candidates and elected officials in Western PA and beyond.
