Media and Communications: Garner earned media around issues central to reproductive rights, respond quickly to attacks on women’s health, work with supporters to ensure Planned Parenthood and women’s health represented in area publications. Maintain Public Affairs section of PPWP website with updated news releases and stories.
Legislator Contact: Serve as government relations contact for more than 40 Southwest Pennsylvania legislators. Work to gain legislator support for PPWP initiatives and forestall attacks from anti-choice legislators.
Grassroots Organization: Oversee all volunteer and grassroots organizing programs. Assist staff to plan and execute volunteer canvass, phone banks, and outreach. Oversee volunteer coordinator and set goals for volunteer program.
Manage the Action Fund/committee – Serve as the Action Fund/committee liaison by facilitating local work to identify, interview, endorse, and provide political support to pro-choice political candidates in Western PA. Conduct fundraising activities to support the work of the Action Fund. Oversee all strategic plan activities related to the Action Fund/committee.
State Office Representation – Serve on the board of the Pennsylvania State Public Affairs office. Actively participate in the public policy committee and in the implementation of a statewide public policy plan.
Skills needed –
• Media skills preferred. Ability to write LTE’s, Op-Eds and press releases.
• Exceptional communication skills – ability to speak convincingly about reproductive rights and healthcare issues to the public, legislators, board members and supporter. Ability to tailor message to audience.
• Volunteer and staff management – ability to work with staff, volunteers and interns to set goals, work through hurdles and maintain accountability. Willingness to nurture and mentor young men and women passionate about reproductive health care issues.
• Grassroots organizing experience – knowledge of basic grassroots organizing tactics, experience with (or willingness to learn) running phone banks, canvasses and conducting outreach.
• Knowledge about reproductive health care issues and government processes.
• Proven leadership ability. Ability to facilitate groups and inspire supporters to act on PP’s behalf.
• Willingness to work flexible hours essential.
